Das Renaissance-Schloss Zeil ist der private Sitz der Fürsten von Waldburg-Zeil.
Schloss Zeil ist von Leutkirch aus mit dem Auto in wenigen Minuten erreichbar. Das Schloss ist nicht öffentlich zugänglich, doch können der Schlosshof, die weitläufigen Parkanlagen, die Pfarrkirche Schloss Zeil und die Aussichtsterrasse besichtigt werden. Hier erwartet Sie ein Panorama-Blick auf die Alpen.
Von weitem schon zieht es die Blicke der Reisenden magisch an, das majestätisch auf einem Berg thronende Schloss Zeil. Im Hochmittelalter beherrschten von hier aus die Grafen von Bregenz und die Grafen von Montfort das Gebiet zwischen Iller und Kisslegg. Im Jahre 1337 gelangte die Herrschaft Zeil an Truchsess Johann und damit in den Besitz des Hauses Walburg.
Nachdem ihm bei der Erbteilung 1595 die Herrschaft Zeil zugesprochen worden war, ließ Truchsess Forben anstelle der alten Burg ab 1597 die bis heute bestehende Vierflügelanlage errichten. Das besondere an Schloss Zeil ist, dass es nie durch Kriegeinwirkungen oder Belagerungen in Mitleidenschaft gezogen wurde. Aufgrund dieser Tatsache vermitteln die reich mit Holzdecken und Vertäfelungen ausgestatteten Räume und Gänge ein anschauliches Bild adeliger Wohnkultur der Zeit um 1600.
