Auf dem Areal eines ehemaligen römischen Wachtturms errichteten die Freiherren von Krenkingen im 11. Jahrhundert zunächst das Alte Schloss, einen Wehr- und Wohnturm. Die Grafen von Sulz bauten die Burg schließlich im 16. Jahrhundert zum heutigen Schloss um.
