Das Sommer- und Lustschloss von Herzog Carl Eugen Solitude wurde 1764-69 im Übergansstil von Rokoko zum Klassizismus erbaut.
Die umgebenden Gärten sind verschwunden. Auf der Nordseite ist noch die schnurgerade, fast noch vollständig existierende Verbindungsstraße zum Residenzschloss Ludwigsburg sichtbar. „Das Bassin“, ein kleiner See und Quellgebiet des Bernhardsbachs, der den Bärensee speist, war in die Gartenanlage integriert. Die Solitudegärten wurden vom Vater Friedrich Schillers verwaltet. Das prächtige Schloss ist von Kavaliersgebäuden umgeben, in dem das Personal untergebracht war.
