Mittelalterlicher Ruhesitz der Meißner Bischöfe.

Zwischen 1150 und 1160 wird das Schloss erstmals als Bischofssitz erwähnt. Die Meißner Bischöfe bauten die ehemalige Wasserburg nach und nach zu einem komfortablen Alters- / Ruhesitz, dem heutigen Schloss Ruhethal, aus. Erst im Jahr 1230 wird vor dem Schloss die Stadt Mügeln angelegt. Den mächtigen Rundturm, der heute noch die Anlage dominiert, ließ Bischof Nikolaus I. im Jahre 1381 errichten. Als letzter Bischof bewohnte Bischof Johann IX. von Haugwitz bis zu seinem Tod 1595 das Schloss. Sein heutiges Aussehen erhielt das Schloss zwischen 1715 und 1727. Seit der Verstaatlichung im Jahre 1831 wurde es vorwiegend landwirtschaftlich genutzt. Schloss Ruhetal befindet sich ab 2005 in privatem Besitz und kann nicht besichtigt werden.

Das Schloss ist in Privatbesitz und kann nur von außen besichtigt werden. Allerdings gibt es eine Zimmervermietung und verschiedene Workshops zum Thema Naturheilkunde.

Vom Leipziger Hauptbahnhof mit der RE50 bis Oschatz. In Oschatz umsteigen in die Buslinie 803 bis Mügeln, Markt. Die Schmalspurbahn fährt ab und zu bis zur Haltestelle am Schloss.

Mit dem PKW: A14 bis S31 in Leisnig folgen, auf A14 Ausfahrt 33-Leisnig nehmen. Dorfstraße und S31 bis Mügeln Markt nehmen.

Parking

Auf dem Mügelner Markt, Mügelner Altmarkt und dem Anger kann kostenfrei geparkt werden. Markt und Altmarkt sind auf 2h begrenzt.
