Stadt und Schloss Hirschberg sind eine Besichtigung wert.

Das barocke Schlossgebäude über der Stadt wurde zwar erst ab 1678 als Residenz für eine Nebenlinie der Reußen erbaut, befindet sich aber am Standort einer mittelalterlichen Burg, die durch die deutschen Könige bereits im späten 13. Jahrhundert an die Vögte von Plauen verpfändet war. Das Schloss ist heute Privatbesitz. Es empfiehlt sich, die Stadt Hirschberg auf einer Wanderung entlang der Saale, z.B. über den Kammweg, zu erkunden und das Museum für Gerberei- und Stadtgeschichte zu besuchen.

Hirschberg liegt verkehrsgünstig an der A 9 Berlin-Nürnberg. Nehmen Sie die Abfahrt 30 - Rudolphstein. Aus Richtung Chemnitz/Plauen fahren Sie auf der A 72 bis zur Abfahrt 3 - Hof/Töpen, nehmen dann die B 2 in Richtung Schleiz und biegen 2 km hinter der Landesgrenze Bayern/Thüringen bei Juchhöh links ab. Dann erreichen Sie Hirschberg.
