Graf Antal Grassalkovich I. den eine Freundschaft mit Maria Theresia verband, ließ Schloss Gödöllő im 18. Jahrhundert errichten. Es hat seine zweitgrößte Blütezeit nach dem österreichischen-ungarischen Ausgleich erlebt, als Franz Joseph I. und seine Ehefrau, die von jedem Sisi genannte Königin Elisabeth als Krönungsgeschenk von dem Ungarischen Königreich bekommen haben. Die Familie Habsburg hat die Residenz hauptsächlich zu Jagdzeiten, im Frühjahr und im Herbst aufgesucht. Darüber hinaus hat sich hier Königin Elisabeth sehr oft und gern aufgehalten, als sie die hofmännischen Verpflichtungen belastend fand. In den verzaubernd hergestellten Räumen wird die adelige, höfische Welt von den 18. und 19. Jahrhundert wieder lebendig. Es gibt hier von Monat zu Monat, mit der Schlossvergangenheit verwandte Veranstaltungen, wie zum Beispiel die Jägertage oder die Barocktage, an denen man Gödöllö und den Schlosspark auf jeden Fall besichtigen sollte.
