It looks like a fairy tale, but it is true: Perched on top of a basalt cliff, Braunfels Castle with its tower-rich silhouette dominates the town and welcomes its visitors from afar.
Braunfels Castle – A Fairy Tale History High Above the Town
It looks like it has sprung from a fairy tale – and yet it is real: Majestically, Braunfels Castle sits on a basalt rock above the town, attracting attention with its distinctive silhouette rich in towers from afar.
For over 800 years, the castle has been continuously owned by the same noble family and is still inhabited today – a living cultural monument that uniquely combines history, art, and the present. Originally built as a fortress, the structure transformed over the centuries into a magnificent castle that incorporates numerous architectural epochs.
Exciting tours take visitors into the eventful history of the house, which maintained extensive connections to Europe and America and is still rich in treasures of art today. Particularly impressive: the diverse event program, ranging from classic tours to thematic walks and open-air performances in the romantic castle courtyard – an experience for young and old.
Braunfels Castle – where history comes alive and fairy-tale settings are reality.
