The Royal Palace of Oslo (Det kongelig slott in Norwegian) is the main residence of the King of Norway. It was built in Oslo between 1825 and 1849 by King Karl III Johann by the architect Hans Linstow in the classicist style.
Situated at the end of Karl Johans Gate, the building is surrounded by a 22-hectare palace garden and fulfils a variety of functions. It serves as the royal residence, a place of state representation, the administrative seat of the monarchy and an exclusive guest house of the highest importance in the country. Normally, the Royal Palace in Oslo offers guided tours for visitors during the summer, when the royal family traditionally stays elsewhere. During these tours, visitors have the opportunity to explore some of the magnificent rooms of the castle, admire the royal collections and learn more about the history and functions of the castle.
