Grand late medieval fortress-palace with striking Great Tower.
Raglan Castle is a magnificent late medieval fortress-palace built by powerful noble families during the 15th century. Unlike earlier military castles, Raglan emphasised luxury and status as much as defence, with grand apartments, towers, and landscaped grounds.
Visitors can climb the impressive Great Tower, explore elegant state rooms, and learn about the castle's destruction during the English Civil War. The site remains one of the most architecturally sophisticated castles in Wales.
Cadw is the Welsh Government's historic environment service and manages more than 130 historic sites across Wales, spanning prehistoric tombs, Roman forts, medieval castles, abbeys, industrial heritage and historic houses. Around 27 of the largest sites charge admission, while the majority are free to enter.
Admission status can occasionally change for special events or conservation work. Some free sites have no staff or facilities. Several major paid sites occasionally offer free entry days, especially around St David's Day. Cadw membership gives unlimited entry to all paid Cadw sites.
