Pelişor Castle is a smaller palace built on the Peles Castle domein. It became, since 1903, the summer residence of the hereditary princes of Romania.
This building is an integral part of the vast architectural ensemble created by King Carol I in the valley of the Peleş Creek, in a period that overlaps practically all of his life lived in Romania. Pelişor is built in the German Renaissance style with an interior influenced mainly by Art Nouveau.
It was built as the residence of the successor Ferdinand I and his wife Maria, because the Peleș Castle should have turned into a commemorative museum, according to the disposition of King Carol I.
The artistic and creative talent of the Queen Maria can be noticed from the decoration of the interiors that she directly coordinated. She was especially influenced by the Art Nouveau style, which was completed with Byzantine and Celtic elements. The Celtic influence comes from the Scottish descendancy of the Queen.
If you have arrived at Peleş Castle, you should visit also Pelişor. You will not regret!
