The castle in the Peles Valley was the summer residence of Romania's kings and was built during the reign of King Carol I of Romania, being completed in 1914.
The state-of-the-art technology that was used at the time (centralized vacuuming and heating system, electric plant) as well as the beauty and richness of the interiors make it one of the most important monuments of 19th century Europe.
Peles Castle is a veritable gallery, where great trends and tendencies in painting, sculpture and decorative arts meet, a place steeped in history, which has hosted crowned heads and visionary artists, which was the residence of the creator of modern Romania, King Carol I, being the expression of the desire to assert and legitimize the Romanian people among the modern nations of Europe.
The castle boasts an impressive artistic heritage consisting of collections of stained-glass windows, furniture and weapons containing pieces dating back to the 15th century.
Peles Castle can be partially visited with Romanian, English, French, Spanish, Italian, French and Romanian-speaking guides.
