Medieval castle associated with poet Dylan Thomas.
Laugharne Castle stands beside the estuary of the River Taf and combines medieval military architecture with later Tudor domestic additions. The castle has a long and turbulent history, including involvement in Welsh uprisings and the English Civil War.
The site is strongly associated with poet Dylan Thomas, who lived nearby at the famous Boathouse. Visitors can explore the gardens, towers, and estuary views that helped inspire some of Thomas's most celebrated writing.
Cadw is the Welsh Government's historic environment service and manages more than 130 historic sites across Wales, spanning prehistoric tombs, Roman forts, medieval castles, abbeys, industrial heritage and historic houses. Around 27 of the largest sites charge admission, while the majority are free to enter.
Admission status can occasionally change for special events or conservation work. Some free sites have no staff or facilities. Several major paid sites occasionally offer free entry days, especially around St David's Day. Cadw membership gives unlimited entry to all paid Cadw sites.
