Auf dem Gelände des heutigen Schlosses befand sich wahrscheinlich bereits im 16. Jahrhundert ein Herrenhaus oder ein großer Gutshof. Die heutigen Gebäude baute man nach Plänen des berühmten niederländischen Architekten Pierre Cuypers, sie stehen heute unter Denkmalschutz.
