Il Castello fu ceduto dai Visconti agli Scotti alla fine del XIV sec.

Il casato piacentino, salvo brevi interruzioni, lo tenne fino agli inizi del XX sec.
All'interno del Castello è conservato un grazioso teatrino in stile settecentesco, commissionato negli anni venti dalla Principessa Maria Ruspoli de Gramont.

Attualmente è proprietà privata.
