Walls, towers, and a moat suggest a castle, but beyond the entrance lies one of the most interesting pre-Palladian villas in the area. The Castle of Roncade dates back to 1508, following in the footsteps of a previous fortified complex, and for about four centuries, it served as the residence of the Venetian family Giustinian.
Once you pass the walls, the atmosphere changes: the path leads to the historic garden, the statues, the farmhouses, the private chapel, and Villa Giustinian. It is this contrast that makes the place unique: outside, towers and walls evoke defense, while inside opens the world of the Venetian villa, characterized by residence, representation, and agricultural life.
This last vocation does not belong solely to the past. Today, the Castle is still a wine estate of the Ciani Bassetti family, and wine is an integral part of the experience. Guided tours and wine tours allow visitors to traverse the historic environments and learn about the estate's production, with various tasting options.
The Castle also continues to be a living place: in the ancient towers and the villa, spaces have been created for hospitality, while the farmhouses accommodate meetings and events.
Visiting the Castle of Roncade thus means traversing over five centuries of history without stopping at the past: the villa, the land, and the wine continue to be part of the same story today.
