Since 1994, Schloss Bellevue has been the official residence of the German President. Built at the end of the 18th century, the castle is not far from the German Bundestag and the Federal Chancellery and is surrounded by a large park directly on the banks of the River Spree. This garden also gave the castle its name: "Bellevue" is French for "beautiful view.”
Many representative events take place in the castle, for example, state visits and New Year's receptions. However, Schloss Bellevue is also open to the public on some days. Special guided tours have to be booked several months in advance.
