Die Niers verläuft über rund 110 km durch den linken Niederrhein und prägt entscheidend die Landschaft. Sie mündet in den Niederlanden in die Maas.
An langen Strecken am Ufer der Niers lang gibt es Rad- und Wanderwege. Die Niers ist auch zum Paddeln geeignet und es gibt einige Anlegestellen zum Aus- und Einsteigen. Außerdem gibt es an der Niers mehrere Naturschutzgebiete beachtlicher Größe, wo der alte Flussverlauf ausgegraben und renaturiert wurde.

Public transport
Die Niers ist an vielen Stellen auch mit öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln erreichbar. In Kevelaer hält am Bahnhof der RE10 aus Kleve oder Düsseldorf kommend. Zu Fuß ist es dann nur ein kleiner Spaziergang bis zur Niers.
