Der heimliche Namensgeber der Stadt

Auf 603 m Höhe entspringt die Lahn in einem Quellgebiet, in welchem auch die Eder und die Ilm entspringen. Von dort nimmt sie ihren Lauf und verbindet sich mit schon einigen kleinen Zuflüssen bevor sie dann Bad Laasphe erreicht. Überlieferungen zufolge stammt der Name Bad Laasphe aus dem keltischen Lassaffa ab, was soviel bedeutet wie Lachsgewässer. Lachse waren früher tatsächlich im Fluss zu finden, und werden heute durch angelegte Lachstreppen versucht wieder zurück zu holen. Das Lachse eine große Rolle für die Stadt gespielt haben, zeigt sich auch durch den sich durch die Altstadt schlängelnden Lachsweg, der dem natürlichen Verlauf des kleinen Bächlein Laasphes nachempfunden ist, welche an der alten Eisenbahnbrücke am Zuweg zum Kurpark ebenfalls in die Lahn mündet.

Schiffbar ist die Lahn hier noch nicht, das wird sie erst viel später ab der Einmündung in den Rhein bei Lahnstein. Allerdings ist sie ab Marburg wunderbar mit dem Kanu zu befahren. Hier gibt es wunderbare Möglichkeiten einzelne Etappen rudernd zurückzulegen.

Knapp 246 km lang ist die Lahn von der Quelle bis zur Mündung, ein rechtsfließender Nebenfluß des Rheins, in welchen sie bei Lahnstein (nahe Koblenz) mündet. Auf ihrem Weg durchquert sie Nordrhein Westfalen, Hessen und Rheinland Pfalz.

Von Bad Laasphe aus führt sie weiter ins Obere Lahntal (Richtung Hessen).

Den Verlauf der Lahn kann man flussauf- sowie flussabwärts über den Lahnwanderweg sowie auch den Lahnradweg bereisen. Es gibt verschiedene Möglichkeiten, die Etappen einzuteilen und so die Ruhe und wunderschöne Natur der Lahn mit geschichtsträchtigen Städten und einladenden Unterkünften zu verbinden.

Public transport

Bad Laasphe ist problemlos mit öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln zu erreichen. Auch der gesamte Verlauf der Lahn kann mit der Bahn etappenweise erreicht werden.
