For over 125 years, the elegant steel construction of the Mattelift has shaped the cityscape of Bern - as a technical pioneer and living cultural asset. Every day, this unique piece of Swiss transportation history reliably transports more than 770 passengers from the Matte up to the platform - and back again.
The Mattelift is unique in Switzerland: it is not just a lift - it is accompanied by real people - our conductors, affectionately known as "lift girls" and "lift boys".
