Ponte Vecchio a Firenze

Die »alte Brücke« über den Fluss Arno in Florenz gilt als älteste Segmentbrücke der Welt. Sie wurde 1345 fertiggestellt.

Auf der Brücke befinden sich lückenlos aneinandergereihte Läden, deren Eingänge zur Brücke hin ausgerichtet sind, während der rückwärtige Teil jeweils mit einem Balkon über den Fluss schaut.

Unter Cosimo I. de' Medici wurde dann um 1565 über der Ladenzeile ein Übergang gebaut, der als Teil des Vasarikoridors den Palazzo Vecchio mit dem Palazzo Pitti verbindet. Ursprünglich waren auf der Brücke hauptsächlich Schlachter und Gerber ansässig. Cosimo I. ließ diese jedoch mit Goldschmieden ersetzen, damit keine stinkenden Abfälle mehr in den Arno geworfen wurden. Bis heute befinden sich auf der Brücke kleine Juwelierläden.
