The Erdekaut is one of the most popular excursion destinations in the region, and there’s a reason for that! A unique natural landscape with a vast diversity of flora and fauna invites you to hike, relax, and recharge. Discover frogs, dragonflies, trout, ducks, and cranes, and be fascinated by the shimmering reflections of the sky over the ponds. Watching our sheep herd, which welcomes new lambs every spring, reliably slows down the everyday hustle and bustle in the midst of nature.

The recreational landscape emerged as a follow-up landscape in the former area intersected by clay pits between Eisenberg and Hettenleidelheim and is a paradise for those who want to go in search of the industrial and economic history of the region. Feel the remnants of the tracks of the mining trains in the grass that transported the clay or visit the former Riegelstein mine in the middle of the Erdekaut, which is now a mining museum. The museum can be visited on request as part of a guided experience tour or digitally, independent of opening hours, via the link: https://vr-easy.com/11147/. Historical videos of work in the mines, drone shots, and interviews with contemporaries can be discovered there as a virtual experience.
In the Erdekaut, many panoramic points have tables and benches available for a rest and invite you to have a picnic. Dining options are available in Seltenbach in Eisenberg and at the sports home in Hettenleidelheim.
Children can find sliding and digging fun at several places in the natural experience of Erdekaut, featuring two slides, sandpits, and rocking animals that can be discovered throughout the area.
