Weiher Nesselwanger Ried

Numerous new habitats for animals and plants have been created by the pond in Nesselwanger Ried. Large dragonflies, flat bellies and many other dragonfly species hunt for food over the water surface of the newly created still water complex. Amphibians such as common frogs or mountain newts settle in the rapidly warming shallow water zones in spring, and the growing reed belt will soon be home to reed brooders such as reed warblers or reed bats. Pasture farming creates valuable small habitats: Meadow birds such as white stork and yellow wagtail are looking for food in short-grass areas, cow pats are habitat for dung beetles, which in turn serve birds as food, and plants in need of light settle in open ground areas, for example.
