Inge Sielmann Weiher

For centuries he had been forgotten, then a hint from a history doctor started the reactivation of the Walpertsweiler pond near Überlingen-Bonndorf. According to the records of a historical fish booklet, the Heilig-Geist-Spital from Überlingen used the pond for fish farming between 1592 and 1743. After that it was abandoned and only the remains of the dam and old field names indicated it. In 2012, the pond was revitalized by the Heinz Sielmann Foundation and the city of Überlingen and another mosaic stone was created in the Lake Constance biotope network. Today the reactivated still water with adjoining meadows, orchards and field trees offers numerous habitats for animals and plants. The extensive shallow water zones, in which amphibians spawn and waders, e.g. B. Forest sandpiper and snipe looking for food on their turn. The islands offer breeding grounds for pygmy divers and various types of ducks, reed nesting in the reeds and rare wetland plants growing along the shore.
