Die Praia Formosa liegt nur wenige Minuten von der Innenstadt entfernt am westlichen Ende von Madeiras Hauptstadt Funchal. Drei kleinere Sandstrände und ein langer Kiesstrand ziehen in den Sommermonaten viele Badegäste an. Aber nicht nur wegen Sonne und Meer kommen die Leute hierher, sondern auch aufgrund der zahlreichen Wassersportmöglichkeiten, sportlichen Wettkämpfe, Konzerte und Veranstaltungen. Umkleidekabinen, ein Bademeisterteam und Snackbars werden als zusätzlicher Service angeboten.
