Der 1.300 Hektar große Senftenberger See ist der "Muttersee" des Lausitzer Seenlandes und befindet sich mitten im schiffbaren Verbund dieser neu entstehenden Region

Der 600 Meter lange Seestrand in Buchwalde ist besonders für Surfer ein beliebter Treffpunkt. Auch Wohnmobilisten finden hier einen ruhigen Platz mit direktem Seeblick. Vor Ort gibt es einen kostenpflichtigen Parkplatz, einen Spielplatz, einen Imbiss, ein Restaurant und sanitäre Anlagen. Buchwalde hat separat ausgewiesene Textil-, FKK- und Surfstrandabschnitte. Für aktive Menschen gibt es vor Ort eine Beachvolleyballanlage und eine Wasserrutsche.
