Der Aartalsee, die zweitgrößte Seefläche Hessens, liegt im Naturpark Lahn-Dill-Bergland und gehört zur Gemeinde Bischoffen. 

 Er lädt zum Segeln, Surfen, Angeln und Baden ein. Am Badestrand gibt es neben ausreichend Parkmöglichkeiten auch Gastronomie. Um den See führt ein 7,5 km langer und teils asphaltierter Rundweg, welcher gerne von Radfahrern, Joggern und Inlineskatern genutzt wird. 

 Die Talsperre dient in erster Linie dem Hochwasserschutz. Sie liegt oberhalb der Ortschaft Bischoffen und riegelt das Tal der Aar, einem linken Nebenfluss der Dill, ab. 

Die Vorsperre, die dem Naturschutz gewidmet ist, beherbergt zahlreiche heimische Tierarten, die hier sowohl im Sommer als auch im Winter Quartier nehmen. Der See eignet sich auch hervorragend als Ausgangspunkt für Wander- und Radtouren, wie zum Beispiel auf dem 12 km langen Premiumwanderweg „Aartalsee-Panoramaweg" oder dem „Aartalseeradweg", der Sie auf flachen Wegen bis in die Fachwerkstadt Herborn führt.

Am Aartalsee stehen mehrere gebührenpflichtige Parkplätze zur Verfügung. Diese sind sehr gut ausgeschildert. Wer an den Badestrand möchte, sollte in der Nähe der Seebeachbar parken.
