At the entrance and exit to Bornheim in the direction of the Hornbach centre, visitors are greeted by a fascinating work of art: the "Rühmer". This sculpture, which sits enthroned on a sandstone block, was created in 2002 by the blacksmith Roland Mewes from Edesheim and attracts attention with its futuristic design.
In the style of the English "toastmasters", who announce the names of guests at receptions and propose a toast, the "Rühmer" praises the arriving guests. With a pint glass in his hand, he warmly welcomes the visitors. As they leave, he gives them a friendly wave and bids them farewell. This unique gesture lends the work of art a special vitality and makes it a symbolic gatekeeper of Bornheim.
