Comitato Provinciale Pro Loco di Padova
As playwright Carlo Goldoni said, the Baglioni family owned a delightful country property called Massanzago: “Fursi un logo no gh’è più ameno e vago” (Perhaps there is no place more agreeable or appealing...). This Villa gets its name from the family of Bergamo origins who chose this place for their summer residence.
The house could well be the one built by Antonio Lombardo in 1663. On Antonio’s death, the complex was inherited by his brother Alvise, who completed it. The Baglionis gave the house solemn, imposing palazzo aspect, confirming the family’s farming vocation.
Inside, decoration of the piano nobile was commissioned to a very young Gianbattista Tiepolo, as the first artistic endeavour for the 18th century’s greatest painter. He depicted the myth of Phaethon in an explosion of the new Venetian language of art that would dominate until Neoclassicism. Later, in the mid-18th century, Antonio Zucchi decorated the ceilings on the ground floor: 7 frescoed rounds and a series in stucco.
