Construite entre 1217 et 1236, l’ensemble de la porte était protégée par 2 tours de flanquement percées de meurtrières, une herse et en avant, par un assommoir. Elle doit son nom à un ancien bailli royal. Elle sera désaffectée en 1831.

Au nombre total de 18 à l’époque médiévale, les portes fortifiées ne sont désormais plus que 3. Elles se composaient généralement d’une herse et d’un assommoir, actuellement visibles.
