Der Obertorturm gilt als wichtigster Turm der mittelalterlichen Stadtbefestigung Rheinfelden. Merkwürdigerweise schlägt dessen Turmuhr nicht zur vollen Stunde.
Es gibt in Rheinfelden nicht nur Sehens-, sondern auch Hörenswürdigkeiten. Eine davon bietet das Obertor. Die Turmuhrglocke schlägt die bevorstehende volle Stunde – zum Beispiel 12 Uhr mittags – obwohl es erst 11.53 Uhr ist und die Zeiger das auch richtig anzeigen. Das ist aber kein Fehler des Uhrmachers. Die Glocke schlägt mit Absicht zu früh.
Es heisst, dies sei einst als Serviceleistung für die Bauern eingeführt worden, die ausserhalb der Stadtmauern auf den Feldern arbeiteten. Abends wurden die Stadttore verschlossen, und wer bei Torschluss nicht innerhalb der Stadt angelangt war, musste die Nacht draussen verbringen.
