The best-known artistic design element of the Olympic Village, designed by Hans Hollein, is a system of tubes about 1.6 kilometers long.
Hans Hollein created one of the first examples of system design with the Media Linie, thus combining architecture with design. The Media Linie, consisting of tubes, with a height of about 3.5 meters, emits warm or cold air through air nozzles in the tubes. In addition, there are fluorescent tubes in the tubes to illuminate the paths. To emphasize the center of the Olympic Village, Hans Hollein arranged the media line there closer together compared to the rest of the Olympic Village. A total of about 5 kilometers of tubes were used in the 1.6 kilometer long tube system.
