The first convent of nuns was founded in 1273 by the Bishop of Basel, and a hospital was added in 1310. With the decline of the diocese, the site came under the direction of the Dominicans of Guebwiller in 1366. When it closed, the convent was bought by the commune to enlarge the town hall, and a few years later an elementary school was built on the site of the former hospice.
