Der Rohstoff Holz, welcher eine der wirtschaftlichen Wurzeln der Region ist und für diese besonders im Thüringer Holzland noch heute charakteristisch ist, prägt auch den Baustil der Region. Fachwerkhäuser mit soliden Konstruktionen bis hin zu kunstvoll verzierten Fassaden sind überall zu finden. Eindrucksvoll kann man diese u.a. in den Tälerdörfern zwischen Tröbnitz und Hermsdorf sehen.
