Das Forum war religiöses und gesellschaftliches Zentrum der römischen Stadt. Es bestand aus einem Platz, der von öffentlichen Gebäuden wie Tempeln, der Basilika, der Kurie und Geschäftslokalen als auch von Skulpturen, die den Persönlichkeiten der Stadt und der Geschichte Roms huldigten, umgeben war. Das Forum von Tarragona wurde ca. 30 v. Chr. erbaut. Nur ein Teil der Basilika ist noch erhalten, wobei es sich um ein dreischiffiges Bauwerk mit dem Gerichtshof, in dem gelegentlich auch der Stadtrat tagte, handelt. Wenn man den Steg hinübergeht, kann man ein kleines Fragment der Stadtanlage Tarragonas mit einigen Straßen und Häusern erkennen.
Es zählt zum UNESCO-Welterbe.
