Rocca di Montauto

Quoted in the acts of division of the county aldobrandesca 1216 and 1274, it was conquered by Orvieto in 1303 and passed to the family Baschi in 1328 (granting of Ludovico "TheBavaro"). Contested between the Counts of Pitigliano and the Republic of Siena, became part of the territory of the latter permanently in 1457. Reduced in poor condition, was deliberate its restructuring between 1469 and 1470. A few years later Siena, following to a request for Anna Notara, girlfriend of Constantine Palaeologo, last emperor of Constantinople, offered it to the princess as the venue for the allocation of a colony of Greeks, that project, although approved by the Government of the Republic, was never realized. Briefly occupied in 1489 by a group of pirates courses, was immediately reoccupied by Siena, who gave it to Pandolfo Petrucci between the end of '400 and the beginning of' 500. Incorporated in the territory of Marsiliana, passed under the Medici after the fall of Siena in 1557. Currently in the ruins stands an imposing quadrangular stone with arched openings which seems alongside a fortified courtyard. Based on the walls ran a large cordon of travertine; on the east side two big archer always travertine.
