Acrocorinth is the ancient akropolis of Corinth, located on top of a high ground nearby the Channel of Corinth. Nowadays, the present city of Corinth is located near the ancient town, which was build around its akropolis.
A powerful and rich polis, Corinth was often at war against its neighbor Athens. During the Peloponnese war, Corinth was one of the strongest allies of Sparta in the Peloponnesian league, against their enemy (Delian league) led by Athens and its allies. Centuries later, conquered my the Macedonians, Corinth was finally distroyed by the Romans, that ended its hellenic histoy and starting a "new beginning" as roman empire province.
