The Germanic Romea Way stretches nearly 2,200 kilometers from Stade to Rome, crossing 3 countries in 94 stages: 44 in Germany, 4 in Austria, and 46 in Italy. From the Brenner Pass, the Germanic Romea Way follows the Isarco river valley passing through Vipiteno and the elegant bishop city of Bressanone. Passing through Chiusa, it climbs onto the Renon plateau, where one enjoys one of the most beautiful views of the Alpine arc. In Bolzano, it plunges into the Adige Valley, which it follows until intersecting Trento, a city where the Catholic Counter-Reformation began in the 16th century. It ascends to Lake Levico, where it runs alongside the Brenta river, accompanying the hiker to the sound of rushing water up to Veneto. In Bassano del Grappa, it enters the Po Valley, continuing towards the beautiful Padua. Beyond Monselice, it skirts a myriad of canals between the Adige and the Po rivers to reach Emilia Romagna and proceed to Rome.

This is our last stage in the Alps, the Lower Valsugana, walking next to the River Brenta which becomes broader and broader as we walk. We now reach the splendid town of Bassano del Grappa, “gate” to the Po Valley of the Venetia. Primolano is a locality in the municipality of Cismon, it is famous for its Venetian fortifications of the so-called “Scala”, which marked the border of the Venetian Republic.

To continue our pilgrimage from Borgo Valsugana we have now a choice of two routes: to continue on the Via Claudia Augusta, taking the way to Telve (SP110), then SP31 to Carzano, via Mulino, passed the bridge on the trorrent, to the right to Scurelle, then Strigno. Out of Strigno we take the SP78 and at Villa Agnedo, at the crossing with Via Ortigara, we take to the left to return on the cycling lane. Otherwise from the centre of Borgo we shall take the cycling lane, which will take us straight to Villa Agnedo. We recommend this route because of its light traffic.
