This sixth stage of the Northern Way is, without a doubt, the longest so far. Some pilgrims prefer to split it in the towns of Lezama or Larrabetzu, but here we show the full stage. In the past, this “swearing route” was taken by the Lords of Biscay, swearing the fueros and guaranteeing the rights and freedoms of the Biscayan people. The last eight kilometres have no intermediate towns until the entrance to Bilbao. As in other large cities, the approach is through an industrial area of little scenic value, but visiting the city is well worth it. Explore its old town and discover the Cathedral of Santiago — the only one on the Camino, apart from that of Compostela, dedicated to the pilgrim saint — the Basilica of Nuestra Señora de Begoña, and the Guggenheim Museum.

Irun-Bilbao-Santander-Gijon-SDC-Muxia-Fisterra My Way of St. James 2016 via SDC to Fisterra Walked in 37 days A few very small sections are missing in the GPX. This happened when I forgot to record. I followed the route according to the Outdoor hiking guide. I chose many alternatives that were well described in the guide.
