The Camino del Norte (also called the Coastal Route) leads us from the French/Spanish border at the Bay of Biscay along the northern Spanish coast westward, and then merges shortly before Santiago into the Camino Francés.

The first stage of the Northern Way begins in Irún, on the banks of the Bidasoa River, which forms the border between France and Spain. From there, it first heads to the Sanctuary of Guadalupe and then continues over Mount Jaizkibel, offering some of the most spectacular views of the entire route. After crossing the mountain, you reach Pasajes de San Juan (in Basque, Pasai Donibane), where a boat takes you across the channel that serves as the entrance and exit to the port of San Sebastián (Donostia). Once back on land, the Way continues over Mount Ulía towards the centre of San Sebastián, the end of the stage and one of the most famous and visited Basque capitals.

Camino del Norte - Part 1

My crazy 1st stage on the Camino del Norte.

Irun-Bilbao-Santander-Gijon-SDC-Muxia-Fisterra My Way of St. James 2016 via SDC to Fisterra Walked in 37 days A few very small sections are missing in the GPX. This happened when I forgot to record. I followed the route according to the Outdoor hiking guide. I chose many alternatives that were well described in the guide.

We crossed the bridge into Spain, walked through Irun and got the last two beds at the Santa Ana hostel in Pasaia
