Pilgrim walks in Leonding

This variant from the town of Traun leads to the main route to Wilhering and then further to the Benedikt Pilgerweg stages along the Danube Trail. It is a relaxed stage that leads through the Kürnberger Wald forest.

From the Danube and the Cistercian Wilhering Monastery with its impressive Rococo church, the route goes through the Kürnberger Forest into the gently hilly landscape west of the state capital Linz. The pilgrimage path passes through typical villages such as Oftering and Holzhausen to Marchtrenk.

The next stage of the Benedikt Pilgrimage Path now leads away from the riverside landscape of the Traun through the flat hilly landscape up to the Danube. Here, agricultural areas alternate with individual still rurally shaped villages on the outskirts of the vibrant economic region of Linz and Wels. The last stretch goes through the Kürnberger Forest, and we reach the Wilhering Monastery, picturesquely located on the bank of the Danube at the stage destination.

This stage variant leads us pilgrims from the Danube and Wilhering Abbey directly onto the Benedictine Pilgrimage Circular Trail Traunviertel. The next stage takes us to the famous St. Florian Abbey. (Stage is still in progress)
