From the Basilica of Mariazell, this first stage of the Mariazell Founders' Trail leads past the original rock formation and up to Sigmundsberg with its charming mountain church. Via Gußwerk and through the Ramertal valley and the Knappengraben ravine, the trail reaches Brandhof hunting lodge. From here, it climbs to the Seeberg saddle and finally descends steeply to Seewiesen.

After the Kurpark Aflenz, it goes peacefully over forest and meadow paths and a section on the bike path to Etmißl. Through the Oischinggraben it leads to the Riegnereck and finally through the Pfeiffergraben to Tragöß with its green lake.

From Seewiesen, cross the valley floor. The path then leads to the idyllic Hackenalm and over the Hackentörl back down into the Feistringgraben. At the end of the gorge, there is a sensory and power place. Aflenz was first settled by monks from St. Lambrecht. From there, Mariazell was then founded.

Der Mariazeller Gründerweg verbindet das Benediktinerstift St. Lambrecht im Naturpark Zirbitzkogel-Grebenzen und die Basilka in Mariazell. Aufgrund seiner zum Teil doch recht anspruchsvollen Etappen und Höhenunterschiede ist er nur für erfahrene Pilger, Wallfahrer und Weitwanderer geeignet.
