The origins of CITTA’ DELLA PIEVE are still unknown. Documents dated back to 1000 call it Castrum Plebis S. Gervasi. From the 14th c. to the 17th the name was shortened into Castrum Plebis and in 1600 circa Pope Clement VIII rises the town to the dignity of city by calling it Castel della Pieve.
