5th of 30 stages on the coastal route, the Camino de Santiago from Irún along the coast to Ribadeo Part 170 of my Camino de Santiago from Saint Petersburg to Santiago de Compostela My adjacent routes: previous: Western Pyrenees / GR10 next: Camino del Norte

The fifth stage of the Northern Way is similar in elevation changes to the previous one but with more small villages along the way, making the walk easier. The route will take you through Bolibar and the monastery of Santa María de Zenarruza (in Basque, Ziortza). Upon reaching Gernika, you can enjoy not only the town’s most notable gastronomic products, such as peppers and beans, but also a free visit to the Casa de Juntas and the Tree of Gernika, a historic symbol of the Basque people.

Irun-Bilbao-Santander-Gijon-SDC-Muxia-Fisterra My Way of St. James 2016 via SDC to Fisterra Walked in 37 days A few very small sections are missing in the GPX. This happened when I forgot to record. I followed the route according to the Outdoor hiking guide. I chose many alternatives that were well described in the guide.

Through forests and up and down hills including a long wooden walkway and stairs, then past locked churches and old farms in rolling countryside, before a long descent to Gernika.
