La Reggia di Caserta venne realizzata per esaudire il desiderio di Re Carlo di Borbone di creare un’opera che emulasse lo splendore di Versailles e, allo stesso tempo, potesse ospitare la folta corte napoletana. L’impianto costato 22 anni di lavoro, iniziati da Luigi Vanvitelli e completati dal figlio Carlo, è costituito da un imponente edificio rettangolare, con quattro cortili uniti da gallerie. I suoi sfarzosi interni tra stanze, saloni, teatri e cappelle consta di circa 1000 ambienti dotati di ben 1742 finestre. I giardini sono la meraviglia delle meraviglie: un parco lungo tre km articolato in tre aree. Il parterre con il bosco vecchio; l’area centrale con ampie vasche d’acqua, cascate e gruppi scultorei; il giardino inglese con essenze arboree di grande pregio, laghetti e corsi d’acqua, terminanti con la Grande e scenografica Cascata. Visiteremo gli splendidi appartamenti reali e avremo la possibilità di effettuare una passeggiata nel parco, tra giardini che si estendono a perdita d’occhio, piscine e fontane alimentate dall’acquedotto Carolino, ed il giardino detto “di paesaggio” o “all’inglese”, ricco di piante rare.
