We will start our day with a visit to San Quirico, a beautiful jewel of the Val D'Orcia, where we will visit the astonishing collegiate church of San Quirico and Giulitta and the well-kept Horti Leonini. From here we start our excursion along the ancient Via Francigena and during the route we will cross a small medieval castle known as Vignoni Alto for its strategic importance. Transfer to Chiusdino, enchanting medieval village that was the birthplace of the noble knight Galgano Guidotti, who, after a dissolute youth, retired to a hermit's life; after his death, the Pope declared him a saint. We will visit the museum, the house where San Galgano was born and then we will start our trek towards the abbey. Upon arrival we will visit the cloister, the scriptorium, and the fascinating open-air church, one of the first sacred places in Italy built in Gothic style. Transfer to Monte Oliveto Maggiore where we'll visit the Abbey, a masterpiece of Renaissance art, with the Chiostro Grande which houses wonderful frescoes by Luca Signorelli and Antonio Bazzi. After passing through the enchanting panoramic village of Chiusure, we will begin our excursion into the wild landscape of the Crete Senesi until we’ll reach Buonconvento, a charming village still enclosed within a 14th century city wall.
