Nature trails in Krieglach

A varied themed hike that takes you along forest and field paths, local roads and short climbs to the summit of the Hauereck and thus also connects the communities of Ratten and St. Kathrein am Hauenstein.

Water - source of life, that is the title of the number 1 water trail in Krieglach: all life on earth goes back to the primeval sea and without water no life on earth would be possible. At the Krieglach leisure lake, the water radiates peace and relaxation. Further stops on the hike: the Langenwanger Au, the Feistritz elevated reservoir and the biotope.

The hike takes us across wide meadows and through shade-providing forests from the Mürztal up to Peter Rosegger's birthplace. Initially, the path leads gently into the Illachgraben, followed by an ascent to the birthplace, with some sections offering a more relaxed pace along the way.

The hike to Peter Rosegger's birthplace from Krieglach leads us through beautiful forests past the Gölk Chapel, a special place in the Waldheimat. Don't be surprised if pilgrims and pilgrims meet us on their way to Mariazell: the tour runs along a section of the famous Mariazell Trail 06 - in this case on the variant that leads via Krieglach to the Marian pilgrimage site.

The tour through the Waldheimat in the northeast of Styria follows sections of the Mariazeller Weg 06, which runs from Eibiswald in southern Styria to the famous pilgrimage site of Mariazell in the north, and a part of the Zentralalpenweg 02, which crosses Austria from Hainburg an der Donau to Feldkirch in Vorarlberg. This trail takes us through the homeland of one of Austria's most famous writers, Peter Rosegger. Due to the many sights and stations along the route, we recommend splitting the tour into two to three stages. This way, you can fully immerse yourself in the homeland of this great Austrian and enjoy the many scenic spots along the way.
