La base di partenza per questa escursione è il Rifugio PetitPierre (m.1920) che si raggiunge da Ponte di Legno con la seggiovia oppure con fuoristrada (in questo caso attenzione perchè la strada è aperta in orari prestabiliti). Dal Rifugio si prende il segnavia n.40 che ci conduce alla conca di Pozzuolo con un sentiero pianeggiante in circa mezz’ora. Raggiuntala si continua sempre con il medesimo segnavia (attenzione a non prendere il n.41 che invece porta alla bocchetta di Casola) iniziando a salire ripidamente per raggiungere un’altra conca pianeggiante oltrepassata la quale il sentiero ricomincia a salire. Ad un certo punto si raggiunge un masso ove c’è la segnaletica che, a sinistra indica la Cima Salimmo, mentre a destra la Calotta. Noi seguiamo quello che indica la Calotta e con una salita ripidissima raggiungiamo la nostra meta finale. Escursione elementare fino alla Conca di Pozzuolo quindi, pur restando facile (attenzione pero’ nell’ ultimo tratto che è scivoloso e con rischio di scariche di sassi), diventa una salita ripida e scomoda prevalentemente fatta su ghiaioni e scomodi massi. Dal PetitPierre ci vogliono circa ore 2.30 ed è una gita da compiersi da Giugno a Settembre.
