The route crosses the Engelsley twice—once to Are Castle and once back—so you can enjoy it all, since the return trip is completely different. Then we’ll hike to the Teufelsley along the ridge and finish the loop with a bit of elevation gain!
It’s very exposed in places, and you’ll often need to use your hands!
T3–T4 applies only to the Engelsley and Teufelsley!
The rest is normal T1 to max. T2 hiking!

Follow the path from the Ahrtalschule in Altenburg basically along the Rundweg 8, going uphill for a long time and later downhill along the Ahrtalsteig. Great views, especially from the Schrock (400m) and the “summit cross” of the Teufelsley (319m), which is however difficult to climb. Towards the end of the hike along the Ahr, you can admire the Engelsley from the valley.

Rur—a beautiful area for hiking. The first 6 km run along the lake, with a quick glimpse of the reservoir. Then through the woods to Vogelsang and back via a gravel path.
The weather was perfect for hiking, and everything is well marked.

Diese eindrucksvolle Rundtour im Ahrtal bei Altena startet am Teufelsloch, wo sich schon zu Beginn ein wunderschöner Ausblick über das Tal eröffnet. Von dort geht es weiter zur Teufelslei, einem markanten Felsmassiv, dessen Gipfel je nach gewählter Route leicht bis anspruchsvoll zu erklimmen ist. Besonders bei feuchtem Wetter ist hier Vorsicht geboten – Trittsicherheit und gute Schuhe sind Pflicht.
Nach dem Abstieg führt der Weg weiter zum Schrock, wo eine urige Hütte zur Rast einlädt – perfekt für eine kleine Pause mit Aussicht. Anschließend geht es mit abwechslungsreichen Höhenmetern, mal bergauf, mal bergab, durch die reizvolle Landschaft weiter bis zum Hornberg.
Dort erwartet dich ein gigantischer Panoramablick auf die Ahr und die umliegenden Berge – ein echtes Highlight der Tour. Der Rückweg führt schließlich entlang der Ahr, bevor man wieder den Ausgangspunkt am Parkplatz erreicht.
Diese Route bietet alles: Natur, Herausforderung und atemberaubende Ausblicke – ein Muss für alle, die das Ahrtal von seiner wilden, ursprünglichen Seite erleben wollen.
