I still clearly remember the creation of the Meraner Höhenweg. Gradually, the individual sections were inaugurated and handed over to hikers. Helmut Ellmenreich, first chairman of AVS Meran, and Robert Schönweger, at that time path warden of AVS-Meran, tirelessly worked on the project. While Helmut took care of the financial side and with his warm manner won over the mountain farmers along the path, Robert organized the work along the route, often climbing into the mountains with pickaxe, shovel, brush, and paint. Today the greater Meran area has a great network of paths, which is also walkable for long stretches in winter. Over time, the Meraner Höhenweg has become a long-distance hiking trail attracting both tourists and locals alike and undoubtedly gives the Texel Group a very special flair.

With the Hochmuth cable car (one-way ticket €8.00, AV members €6.50) to the mountain station, then continue past the Mutkopf guesthouse to the Oberkaser hut. The second day is a very rewarding day route through impressive scenery, where you get to know some of the lakes of the Spronser Seenplatte. The third day passes by more lakes and is characterized by two crossings in the high alpine region and a very long descent.

The great circular hike on numerous sunny irrigation channel and theme paths is a must for leisurely hikers. The beautiful landscape with partly wonderful views is especially enjoyable in spring and autumn. PLEASE NOTE: The designation "Meraner Waalrunde - Sentieri dell'Acqua di Merano" as a union of the eleven irrigation channels - sentieri/rogge in the Merano area has been discontinued and the corresponding markings along the route have been removed. The individual irrigation channels are now only marked by their names.

On foot across the Alps, stage 14: For those who want to do all 15 stages: Not for cable car, bus or taxi drivers! This Alpine route is planned on foot, from Bregenz to Meran, through flat valleys, up to alpine peaks, over suspension bridges and through streams. Exposed, exposed or secured trails lead over scree fields, ridges and via ferrata. We start on the Via Alpina in Karthaus (130 m). Vermoi (2929 m) with summit cross, in front Gamsegg (2912 m) and on the left Texelspitze (3318 m) and Gfallwand accompany us through the Schnalstal on the Via Alpina (Yellow trail) until it meets the famous Meran High Mountain Trail shortly after Katharinaberg (1245 m) (refreshments, overnight stay). A panoramic trail of superlatives, which meanders along the northern ridge (sunny side) of the Adige valley with constant ups and downs. On the left we reach Oberperflhof (1430 m) (refreshments, overnight stay), mountain farm Kopfron (snack station) (refreshments) until we come to Linthof (refreshments), which lies below Platleidereck (2301 m). Here the Adige valley opens, we leave the Schnalstal behind and are about to circle the Gfallwand. Kleines Jöchl (2838 m) - Kirchbachspitze (2912 m), Lahnbachspitz (3053 m) Zielspitz (3009 m) with summit cross - Bildhornspitz (2578 m) within reach Ohrenkott (2258 m) with summit cross, behind Stocker tower (2662 m) and the last in the row the upper tower (2455 m). Opposite, the Nartunser Hochwart (2608 m) towers over the Adige valley. Past the top station Innerforch (refreshments) and top station Galmein (refreshments, overnight stay) until we come to Pirchhof (refreshments, overnight stay), the last opportunity for refreshment before Giggelberg. The first views of Meran already open up here. Giggelberg, top station of the Texelbahn, awaits the hiker and offers a tasty meal and a cozy overnight stay.
