Traversing the Alps on foot is a very rewarding, memorable adventure. It involves crossing passes at varying altitudes up to 2796m, which is the high point of the route provided here. It also involves trekking through three different countries: Switzerland, France and Italy.
Views of the high Alps are vast and magnificent and they will vary from one massif to the next as parties progress; a pastoral limestone start to a close-up of Mont Blanc and eventually the Southern Alps with their numerous natural lakes to finish. The walking can be easy on large paths and it can be difficult and rocky; there may be some snow too. Parties will probably camp and many of the sites will be wild. There are numerous mountain huts all along where food and drink can be bought and where those not wanting to camp may spend the night. Some sections are more frequented than others, so there can be plenty of social contact. The overall route is around 600 kms in length but, of course, it can be divided up and done in anyway parties please.
